“A female like you would make you weak, spindly young.”

We got some answers to some questions I had from Tyrant Alpha. When Killian calls for Una to shift at the garage, Annie also shifts. I thought it was an author error since female shifters don’t shift till their first heat. It turns out that people will believe what they want to.
Trigger Warning: PTSD symptoms
Overview
Annie experienced a traumatic event when she was young that has forever changed her. She sees the threats everywhere she goes. She wants not to be afraid, but she hates it; no matter what, the fear always wins. Even meeting her mate is a terrifying event, and she can’t explain to him what’s wrong with her. This results in him leaving her after their first meeting. Now he’s back, and he will make her give it a try this time.
Positives
I feel like this is an excellent representation of someone battling PTSD. It looks different for everyone, but most of us can relate to the inner arguments and the difference between knowing and believing. You can feel safe, but it’s still a challenge.
If reading in order, you have already met Justus. But we get to see a different side of him, one where he is very socially aware and intelligent. The moment he put everything together was adorable.
Negatives
This story focuses more on the relationship and overcoming mental illness, which may not be what you’re looking for. Because of this focus, there isn’t nearly as much sexual content as there is in other series.
Recommendations
If you are simply looking for the smut we have come to enjoy from Cate C. Wells, you may want to skip this. But if you have been enjoying the overarching plot and stories, it’s a nice read. Technically, I think you could read it as a stand-alone, but the culture might be confusing.
Audiobook Notes
I first read this book on Kindle, so I can say that the audiobook, narrated by Natalie Eaton and Scott Rose, is slightly better.
