Romance Snapshot:

Overview

Aleda loves her job at the Ministry. She stays in the basement and takes care of her plants. But on the way to the seed archive to pick up a Midnight Belladonna seed, things take a wrong turn. Somehow, she goes from being a Junior Horticulturalist to the Minister, the highest position.

Now she is responsible for getting the Ministry ready for an inspection in two weeks—an inspection to determine if they’re still worth the funding. With everything in disarray, she has her work cut out for her. Can she overcome her own insecurities to lead her team to success?

Positives

Aleda is such a relatable character. She struggles with imposter syndrome. The sudden, extensive promotion seems so daunting to her. Some of her coworkers make it worse by confirming she isn’t fit for the role. But she learns to play to her strengths. I appreciate that her recovery isn’t instantaneous; it took work.

Even though we don’t see much past the ministry, we can tell it’s a unique and beautiful world. There’s so much variety in the characters, some of which are usually inanimate but brought to life with magic.

Negatives

I absolutely loved everything about this book! I pretty much read it in one sitting.
