“He smells nice.”
“So does cyanide…”

While not my favorite of the series, that’s only because the others are more relatable to me. It still meets all of my rejected mate requirements.
✔Imperfect, but strong female lead.
✔Painful rejection.
✔A lot of groveling occurs when the male realizes his mistake.
Overview
We are introduced to Rosie, who is a scavenger in the Moon Lake Pack. She’s so low in the hierarchy that, technically, she doesn’t even rank. Fate must have a sense of humor, pairing her with the heir apparent, Cadoc Collins. Their romance is reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet, seemingly doomed from the start.
Positives
I look like a fool listening to this audiobook. I randomly burst out laughing. The entire cast of characters is exceptionally well-developed. Their chemistry provides great comedic relief to the rejection. Since Moon Lake has more interactions with humans, we get more cultural references, even a Golden Girls reference.
Negatives
Even with all the human references, we are getting deeper into the world Cate C. Wells has made. If you enjoy Shifter and other fantasy romances, you will barely notice, but newcomers may start having difficulties relating to the world. It’s not a negative but a heads up.
Overall
While it’s not my absolute favorite in the series, I have still read, or rather, listened to it many times. It’s a 5-star. All the books in the series can be read as stand-alone. I was able to read them out of order and still enjoyed each one.
Audiobook Notes
Narrated by Silas Hart and Elle Sonali. I love Elle Sonali’s voice. I’ll have to look for books narrated by her. Silas Hart was an excellent choice for Cadoc. Cadoc’s wolf is a little different, and Silas can capture this perfectly.
