Taming Chaos by Anna Carven

In “Taming Chaos,” Seph, an analyst sold for weapons, is rescued by Torin, a brooding alien warrior. Their journey explores the evolution of love in a chaotic environment. The book,…

Sold for weapons in the lawless outer reaches, Seph finds an unlikely savior in Torin—a brooding alien warrior who’s about to learn love isn’t so alien.

The first spin-off series from Dark Planet Warriors. Taming Chaos is the first book in the Darkstar Mercenaries Series.

Overview

Persephone, who prefers “Seph,” is an analyst who specializes in alien studies. She’s been put on a team trying to get advanced weaponry for humans. Unfortunately, she’s in the outer reaches of space where the law is like the wild west – there is more. Her team tricks her and sells her for weapons.

Luckily, Torin happened to be listening in and decided to help her. The rescue attempt has its hurdles, and Torin begins to realize his fellow (former) First Division Warriors have become infatuated with their human mates. Seph’s wild red hair matches the fire within himself for her.

Positives

Remember when boys would complain that girls had cooties, and the parents would say something like, “You won’t think so in a couple of years.” The boys then grumble and mutter, “There’s no way.” Torin is one of those boys, I think it’s adorable!

I love how you never get the same plot twice with Anna Carven. Each book has unique characters and a different obstacle to overcome. Yet, you know you’re still going to love it.

Negatives

There was one point where Torin was confronting the individual who bought Seph. I feel like that could have been more developed; it just felt like it was blown over. But that was it.

Recommendations

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I still give it five stars. This was an excellent launch for the Darkstar Mercenaries Series.  It is very different from Dark Planet Warriors, but you still know you’re getting the protective Kordolians we have grown to love.

Narration Notes

Series narrated by J.F. Harding.

The audiobook was part of the Audible Plus catalog, but it expired on August 5, 2025, so it will need to be purchased. If you love alien romance, it’s worth the credit.

Both series are available for free with a Kindle Unlimited membership.
