A cursed witch, a falling corpse, and a magic-hating partner—welcome to Cyn’s world, where murder meets mischief and nothing is ever quite what it seems.

Spelled in Ink is set to be released on October 11, 2025. It is the first book in the Da Vinci Mysteries series. The Da Vinci Mysteries are a series of paranormal, cozy murder, mystery, and fantasy novels.

Overview

Cynthia, Cyn for short, is a witch with a goddess’s curse that was put on her family generations ago. This is why she agreed to this morally questionable assignment. Nothing is going right, from the dead body falling from the sky, the stranger hiding in the shadows with her, or the pair of witches that show up, also looking for her mark.

Now she’s got a murder to solve, secrets to unbury, and somehow break the curse she’s under. Hopefully, her new, magic-hating “partner” is more helpful than she thinks.

Positives

This is a lovely, comfy vibe. Hanson did a fantastic job creating a unique world, but also delivered it strategically in a smaller package without taking away from it. Numerous small details significantly added to the charm.

The characters were also well developed. There is even the rare representation of a single dad. It adds to his likability; his ego is a little too much (at least for me) on its own. His vulnerability of being a dad missing his daughter was a great touch.

Negatives

The marketing alludes to a slow-burning romance. I didn’t really see it. Maybe it’s a slow burn across the series? Cyn and Don definitely have chemistry, but I just felt like it balanced them out as a working pair. If the author continues with these characters, I could definitely see their relationship blossoming into something more.

Recomandations

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I immediately downloaded Spelled in Ink solely based on the pitch line.

Spelled in Ink A hilarious paranormal cozy murder mystery and fantasy featuring a witty female amateur sleuth.

And I was not disappointed, it’s five stars. I loved it.
