In Out of Darkness, we head back to Fortuna Tau for this fourth book in the Dark Planet Warriors Series.
Overview
Jia is the go-to mechanic on Fortuna Tau, but this Kordolian battle cruiser is testing her skills. She finally approaches Kalan, the second-in-command Kordolian, who then assists her in finding a callidum drill so they can complete repairs.
When repairs are complete, the Kordolian general runs? Away with Jia’s best friend, Abbey, to get her life-saving care. (Check out Dark Planet Warrior to read Abbey’s story.) The majority of the First Division is left behind to continue eliminating the Xargek. Unfortunately, there are more than just Xargek wreaking havoc on Fortuna Tau.
Positives
Jia is awesome! She’s a top-rate mechanic who gets dirty for her job. But as soon as she’s showered and ready to relax, she goes straight to her pink nightdress and her pink fluffy slippers.
I like that Kalan isn’t the grumpy alien type. He comes off as a “ladies’ man” because he’s so good at flirting. This isn’t an ordinary skill among Kordolians. He is still protective of his “little human,” which is common among Kordolians who have met their mates.
Negatives
The characters didn’t grow as a result of the plot. Jia and Kalan start as well-developed, strong characters and remain so throughout. Their only change is their relationship. I don’t find anything wrong with this; I just felt I needed to point that out for anyone who looks for that.
Recommendations
If you love sci-fi romances and specifically alien romances, you will love this entire series, including Out of Darkness. It’s five stars for me.
Narration Notes
Jillian Macie and Todd McLaren are still narrating this series. I enjoy that the voices for each character are so distinct throughout all of the first four books.
