Overview

The second book in the Garoureve Shifter series. This time, we get to follow Scarlett’s journey of self-discovery and romance. Scarlett arrives in Garoureve to take over the small clinic in town. Soon, a variety of hurdles interfere with her budding relationship with the baker, Mardoc, including the real reason she was requested in Garoureve.

This is a classic grumpy/sunshine trope. Scarlett’s light pokes holes in Mardoc’s armor, while his quiet intensity gives her space to confront her grief and trauma. It’s not just opposites attract—it’s opposites heal.

Positives

I liked that Drew doesn’t keep the same general plot with a different couple that we see in some series. Her character development is so well done that there was no way, even if she kept the plot, you would still have a completely different story. I also love that Scarlett is plus-size and has scars. She’s proud of both.

Needless to say, Needed in Garoureve is fast-paced, and there aren’t any dull moments. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Drew throws a plot twist.

Negatives

I don’t have any negatives. As far as being a shifter romance, this one has a lot more information about Garourevés shifters, which helps understand the magic of Garourevé.

Recommendations

It’s an Elle M. Drew book, so there are detailed, intimate moments. It’s a well-written shifter romance. I give Needed in Garoureve four stars. It’s my least favorite of the series, but it’s still enjoyable.
