She traded blades for brews. In a town that’s never tasted coffee, Viv’s biggest battle might be building a home—and a community—from scratch.
Legends & Lattes is a cozy fantasy that follows Viv, an orc, as she starts a new life. The prequel, called Bookshops & Bonedust, follows Viv on her journey of self-discovery. A third book is scheduled for release in November 2025, it will follow Fern, a character introduced in Bookshops & Bonedust.
Overview
Viv is putting up her sword, literally. After a lifetime of mercenary work, she’s done. She wants a peaceful life. Determined to spread her love of coffee with the people of Thune, she renovates a livery (stable) into a shop. Along the way, she enlists the help of other lovable “misfit” characters.
Together, they overcome each obstacle, from explaining what coffee is (to everyone) to renovations to meet their growing needs. Viv finds allies in unlikely places, her history comes to meet her, and old friends become foes.

Positives
This has become one of my favorites! I love the cozy feel and the found family. Travis Baldree has a way of making high-stress events feel less overwhelming, keeping the entire story light yet with a sense of feeling.
There is romance, but it’s a slow-burning affair that focuses on emotion rather than physical intimacy. The focus of the story is Viv’s growth and learning that true magic lies in community. It gives a warm and cozy feel.
Negatives
There is nothing I don’t like.
Recommendations
I love it so much that I’ve ordered a physical copy to keep so that I can enjoy it many more times. It is definitely a fantasy, and there is practically no physical romance. I give Legends & Lattes five stars!
