The final chapter of The Bridge Kingdom saga is almost here—and it’s bringing six POVs, tangled loyalties, and the fate of Ahnna and James to a breaking point.
The Audible release of The Tempest Blade is October 9. Audible will release the book first as an exclusive, followed by a print release on April 14, 2026. This post contains spoilers.
Series Overview
The Bridge Kingdom series has rich world-building, political intrigue, and slow-burning, forbidden romances. The dual POV allows us to be fully immersed in the romantic and political dynamics.
The main characters must choose between their love for each other and their loyalty to their kingdom. We often see how political ambitions wrap people’s moralities, leading to painful consequences for everyone involved.
The Twisted Throne leaves us with a major cliff hanger, something we’ve seen after both The Bridge Kingdom and The Inadequate Heir. The currently untitled sixth installment will not only resolve the events of The Twisted Throne, but also finish up the series.

Bridge Kingdom Book Breakdowns
The Bridge Kingdom Synopsis
Lara is sent by her father, King of Meridrina, to marry (and infiltrate) King Aren of Ithaca. As she learns that things are not what her father told her, she grapples with her loyalty to her people and her growing feelings for her husband. In a moment of anger, she sets up a message to her father with plans to take down Ithaca. Immediately after, she faces her father’s lies. She believes she destroyed the message before it was sent. Unfortunately, she wasn’t fast enough, and Ithaca’s attacked. She admits her betrayal and is banished.
The Traitor Queen Synopsis
Aren has been taken captive by the King of Meridrina. Lara recruits her sisters to help mount a rescue. Their escape doesn’t go as planned, and they end up lost in the desert for a spell. During this time, Aren gets to see that his feelings for her haven’t died away from the betrayal. Too bad his people will never forgive him. A final battle is launched against Ithaca’s home island. Their supposed allies have betrayed them. Lara sees an opportunity to end the fight and stop the invasion. But it costs her her life. Her act of loyalty to Ithaca sways many of the people.
The Inadequate Heir Synopsis
Coinciding with events from previous books. Keris and Zarrah begin a love affair, only calling each other by their kingdoms and keeping their identities secret from each other. When Zarrah is forced to break it off, their identities are revealed, and Keris’s brother captures her. In an effort to save her life, Keris claims the right to deliver her to his father, the King. After arriving in the capital, Keris joins forces with his sisters to get both Aren and Zarrah free. Zarrah insists on returning to her Aunt, Empress of Valcatta, to try to prevent the attack on Ithaca’s people. She not only finds that a war is precisely what her aunt wants, but also that her aunt has discovered the relationship with Aren. Zarrah’s aunt sentences her to Devil’s Island.
The Endless War Synopsis
Keris works with Lara and Aren to launch a rescue mission to get Zarrah back. While on the island, Zarrah witnesses her Aunt’s treachery to her own people. Meanwhile, back in Meridrina, the Empress of Valcotta aligns with Keris’ enemies to start a revolution. After rescuing Zarrah, Keris addresses the uprising while Zarrah returns home with her (not so dead) father to retake the empire. Keris arrives as Zarrah challenges her aunt. When the battle is over, Keris gives his throne to his oldest sister so he can remain with Zarrah.
The Twisted Throne Synopsis
Ahnna has decided to honor the agreement to marry like her older brother, Aren. The contract stipulates that she will marry William, Prince of Harndall, who is a spoiled and drunkard. She instead accidentally falls in love with James, the bastard son. James’ mother was a Cardiffian; they’re like gypsies and treated just as severely. In a political move to get his favorite son, James, on the throne, the King marries William to Lestara and intends to marry Ahnna to James. The Queen foils the last part by assassinating the King and blaming it on Ahnna. Ahnna is wanted for murder, and instead of running for her freedom, she returns to James to warn him of his stepmother’s plans to murder him.
Where We Left Off
The last ten chapters happen quickly, and there’s a lot to unpack.
- Ahnna is called to the throne room by King Edward. He’s elusive, speaks of a change that will be in history books. He also makes the comment, “The Queen is already dead.”
- A last-minute ball is being held, but Ahnna isn’t invited.
- Alexandra comes to Ahnna’s room to find out how much she knows.
- When talking with James, Edward implies an alliance with Cardiff, creating an open market that will harm Ithaca’s trade.
- Alexandra assists Ahnna in escaping her chamber to attend the ball. She arrives in a sexy leather dress and a crown worthy of Ithaca.
- Edward publicly announces that their neighbor, Amanid, killed James’ mother. So he’s arranged the marriage of William and Lestara, a princess of Cardiff, to strengthen the kingdom.
- James chases down Ahnna to apologize, and she swears that if any of them come near her again, she will kill them all.
- The king reveals to James that he is the true heir and his siblings are illegitimate. He plans for James to marry Ahnna and help him overthrow Aren, the King of Ithaca.
- Queen Alesandra stabs herself and frames Ahnna for the attack and the King’s murder.
- James is horrified and angry. He pursues Ahnna. She escapes, but barely.
- Ahnna discovers that Alexandra is aligned with Amarid to supply weapons to their enemies. Alexandra was more powerful than they thought. The Twisted Throne ends with Ahnna turning around to return to the Sky Palace.
What to Expect in The Last Bridge Kingdom Book
Danielle L. Jensen recently sent out a newsletter discussing how this is going to be the best of the series. Except for Bridge Kingdom, the remaining four books have dual narratives. In The Tempest Blade, she includes all six narratives.
