Michael’s crew thought they were building a future. Instead, they’ve uncovered Earth’s buried past—and it’s coming back with teeth.
Ancient Enemies is the third book in The Space Legacy series. The series builds on previous books, so you need to read them in order.
Overview
Michael and his found family still have a lot of corruption to clear for humanity to get its fresh start. As they begin their lives in space aboard the Ascension, they balance relations with governments on the ground and prepare for the future. All that is small compared to what a thousand-year AI reveals to them.
The AI reveals Earth’s secret history from the lost city of Atlantis to the role of angels and demons. Everything they thought they knew is turned upside down. The threats of the past are returning, and humanity needs to be ready.

Positives
We have really entered the space opera era of the Space Legacy. The world-building has grown to Mars and everywhere in between. It has also expanded in time. This new AI challenges beliefs we’ve had for thousands of years. So much so that the Vatican gets involved.
While we’ve seen mostly internal conflicts with humans fighting over crime and corruption, we are introduced to the possibility of a much larger external strife. This really pushes us into space opera territory.
Negatives
Beyond Michal and Max, there isn’t any depth in the characters. Don’t get me wrong, Michael and Max are hilarious and rich. But I like a little more depth in all the characters.
Recommendations
The science fiction is excellent and well done. The futuristic world and complex plot carry Ancient Enemies to the goal. But I like a little more character. It’s four stars for me. There is no ETA for book four, but when it arrives, you can check out my Space Legacy Before You Read to get a refresher of the story so far.
