A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle L Jensen

A Curse Carved in Bone continues the Saga of the Unfated, following Freya as she grapples with Bjorn’s betrayal and her newfound powers. Set in Nordeland, the story explores Norse…

Freya’s fury burns brighter than her magic. Betrayed by blood, bound by fate—she must choose who to trust before war and secrets consume them all.

A Curse Carved in Bone is the second part of the Saga of the Unfated series.

Overview

Freya’s temper will not be appeased. She can’t believe Bjorn’s betrayal. Now in Nordeland, Bjorn tries his best to show her why he did what he did. What is an adequate excuse for betraying your people and family?

Now that she knows the truth of her ancestry, as do many others, Freya has to come to terms with her powers. She also needs to understand the blood bond with Snorri; being under the command of others is getting old.

In addition to all of that, there is still a battle coming between Skaland and Nordeland. We also haven’t seen the last of betrayals and secrets.

Positives

We dive even deeper into Norse mythology, and I love it! I always wondered why more fantasy authors haven’t dipped into Norse mythology. There’s so much to work with.

In my A Fate Inked in Blood review, I mention how the characters are all well-developed. That didn’t change. The plot seemed to move a little faster this time. Just when I think the battle is over, some other twist pulls our heroes back in.

Negatives

I was listening to the audiobook using the Libby app. Luckily, my local library has a physical copy because I kept getting confused with the names and lost track of the plot. I’ve listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and this has only happened a few other times, where reading the ebook or physical book is significantly easier.

Recommendations

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Even with having to go back to reread where I got lost, it’s still a great read. It’s four stars for me. If you love fantasy romance, this duology should be on your TBR.

Narration Notes

We get a dual narration this time with Nina Yondis and Nikolas Salmon. Like I mentioned in the negatives section, things got a little confusing, but it was still enjoyable.

Local library for the win!
