Her Dragon Protector by Roxie Ray

Charlotte arrives broken but determined. Axel sees her strength and vows to protect her, even from himself. As danger closes in, trust becomes their fiercest weapon—and love, their slow-burning salvation.…

When Charlotte escapes a violent past, she finds refuge in Black Claw—and in the arms of a dragon who swears she’ll never feel helpless again.

Her Dragon Protector is the second book in the Black Claw Dragons series. It continues right where Her Dragon Daddy left off, but with a new couple.

Overview

Charlotte arrives at her best friend’s home in Black Claw covered in bruises and cuts. She had finally had enough with her ex-boyfriend’s abuse. After getting much-needed emergency medical care, she settles into the Kingsley household. They expect her ex to come after her, so they keep her as close as possible. This puts her in close proximity to the attractive Axel. As attracted as she is to him, she needs to take it glacierly slow. She’s not making another relationship mistake.

Axel knew Charlotte was his mate the second he set eyes on her. The second before she collapses. He doesn’t know her story yet, but he will do everything in his power to make it better. She will never be this helpless again.

Positives

Axel is protective and understanding. He makes mistakes, but he acknowledges them, apologizes, and rectifies the issue. The protective dragon can sometimes be too intense, but in Axel’s case, his human side is usually level-headed and can keep the dragon at bay.

Charlotte has a kind heart, despite all her failed relationships, especially the violent one she has just escaped from. Her development from someone who jumped from relationship to relationship, to a woman who knows she can stand on her own two feet, and ask for help. That’s a pretty good character arc.

Negatives

I had hoped to learn a little more about the dragon shifter lore, but they’re still pretty tight-lipped about revealing their secrets. However, we gain a better understanding of the Kinston family dynamics.

Recommendations

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I’ll give it four stars. I felt the world-building could have used more support, but it’s still a beautiful world that Roxie Ray has created.

Narration Notes

Melanie Hastings narrates Her Dragon Protector. I didn’t like her at first. Her voice, to me, made Claire seem airheaded. I know it’s just because she’s soft spoken, but I feel Claire deserved a stronger voice. It gets a little better.
