Lost in an alien forest, survivalist Lily must trust the one creature who fell from the sky—knowing his secret might shatter everything they’re building.

We’ve met this couple already, just separately. We met Lily at the end of Choosing Theo when she and Alex decide to take their chances with the forest instead of the unknown aliens. Verakko was tasked to help with another rescue mission at the end of Freeing Luka.
Overview
When Alex decides to run, Lily knows she’s Alex’s best chance of survival. Lily grew up living off the land; her parents were survivalists. If any human could survive in an alien forest, it would be her.
Unfortunately, a landslide separates them. As she is searching for Alex, an alien falls out of the sky. As he helps her search for her friend, their relationship grows. But he has a secret that will destroy this relationship when she finds out.
Positives
We get to know a little more about the political and legal structure of Clecania, as someone who has read through the series already. I can say, we have only scratched the surface of the complexities in Clecanian cultures. Victoria Aveline does a great job of easing us into this world.
Lily’s backstory was very well developed. It makes her a strong and believable character. She can hold her own against this bulky alien. I love her resourcefulness and resilience.
Negatives
Nothing wrong, just Verrako is an idiot. Luckily, he knows it and learns from his mistakes. It adds to the authenticity of his character.
Recommendations
I give it four stars, but there are several aspects where I am tempted to give it a five.
Narrative Notes
Stephen Dexter continues the narration of the series. In previous books in the series, I’ve mentioned how you barely notice that it’s a man all the way through. It’s impressive how feminine he can sound.
I purchased the audiobook from Audible with a membership.
