Overview
Mira has been at the bottom of the pack since she was born. Her childhood was full of abuse and bullying. When she runs into her fated mate, she is optimistic that her life is improving. He brings her to his home, then informs her that he is betrothed to another and refuses to break that commitment. After a heat gone wrong, she runs away.
Griffin is next in line to be King. He has carefully selected the woman who will stand by him as his queen. After Mira, his true mate, disappears, he carries out his original plans. Over the next five years, he has come to realize his error. His chosen bride has turned into a cruel woman, the lower members of his pack are still struggling, and his business is declining. When he goes to confront his competition, it’s a ghost of his past.

Positives
One thing Jennifer Eve does very well is emotional scenes. You feel the pain of what the character is experiencing. I cried a lot! My poor dogs thought I was going into a crisis. How do you explain to your emotional support animals that it’s just a book?
The Wolf Prince’s Mate is a fairly generic rejected mate trope. You do get to see a little of the world beyond the pack, which isn’t always the case. As for character development, I like Mira’s confidence and sense of self growing. Griffin struggled to learn his lesson, but he finally was humbled.
Negatives
While emotionally intense, it falls short in dialogue and plot. Some conversations were stiff, and at times I couldn’t tell who was saying what. As for the plot and characters, some of the events involving Griffin come off as a little abusive. I know he’s an alpha, and he’s supposed to be gruff and egotistical, but there are still red flags.
Recommendations
I am not exaggerating on how much you feel while reading this book. If the writing were stronger, it could be great. But the negatives make parts of it challenging to read. I give it three stars.
